What’s in a room?—Sharing of an online counselling experience
May 4, 2020 (Mon) 18:00 – 19:15
Abstract
Online counselling is a relatively new development in recent decade and has been identified as an important source to reach out clients who might have difficulties in accessing the face-to-face counselling services. In view of the outbreak of COVID-19, online platform becomes one of the most accessible means for counsellors and clients to meet. This seminar will explore how to conduct counselling on online platform, including ways to engage clients, facilitate the reflection and establish collaborative relationships in the “room” of the online setting. The professional and ethical issues, such as the “netiquette” rules; confidentiality, and boundaries and limits of counsellor-client relationships would be explored as well. There will be a short live demonstration of an online counselling session to let participants experience the helping process.
