CAISE Seminar
Addressing Motor Performance Problems in School-Aged Children: Perspective from a Hong Kong Context

Abstract
We will present an overview of neurodevelopmental disorders with a focus on movement-related issues, and then focus on developmental coordination disorder (DCD) or dyspraxia. We will discuss some evidence-based practices in terms of screening and intervention that may be considered for school settings, especially in the Hong Kong context. Finally, we will share insights on the impact of DCD/dyspraxia on the daily functioning and wellbeing of children, and our efforts to enhance awareness in schools and the wider community.

 About the Resource Speakers
Dr. Catherine M. Capio is an Associate Professor of Physiotherapy in the Hong Kong Metropolitan University. She researches on motor learning and development in children, including those with neurodevelopmental disorders. She is also a founding member and the Hong Kong representative of the International Society for Research Advocacy for DCD (ISRA-DCD).

Ms. Joanne Yin founded the Hong Kong Dyspraxia Foundation when her son was diagnosed with the condition and she realized there was little awareness or support in Hong Kong. In a parallel life, she is a lawyer and currently works in finance.
